Sora no Woto Impressions (+ K-ON! Gripe)
by Moonlily on Jan.15, 2010, under Anime

It’s been awhile since I’ve found anything interesting to say because Fall 2009 was a low point because few shows managed to catch my interest and draw me in. Plus, it served as a good break given my heavy courseload. So, Fall goes by and I can’t really say I feel any sort of urgency to catch up. Time to turn a new page and start fresh.
And what a better target to pick on than K-ON! After all, K-ON! is pretty much the latest poster child for everything that’s wrong with anime, right? Cute characters with irritating one-dimensional personalities, a general sense of pointlessness about the plot, and nonexistent character growth. Basically, compare Hidamari Sketch to K-ON! and you’re looking at a world of difference in terms of quality and I’d argue that both aim towards the same general target audience.
Enter Sora no Woto with its similar general artistic style and its seemingly nonsensical foundation of a plot and you have a product that would be easy to write off. Unless you actually watched the first episode, that is. (continue reading…)
A Tale of Bros and Hoes – CLANNAD Kyou Chapter thoughts
by Cloud on Jul.05, 2009, under Anime
I was pretty damn sad when CLANNAD ended a couple of months ago, as it’s one of my favorite series now. I kinda forgot about what they did with the first season, and how they bundled an extra episode with the DVDs, so I was pretty excited when I heard they were doing the same with the After Story DVDs. Last time, they decided to cover the later half of the Tomoyo arc, and with this episode, they covered Kyou’s arc, which I’ve played through in the visual novel, so I was interested to see how they’d run with it, and they actually surpassed my expectations.
K-ON!: What a load of crap (A Final Review)
by Moonlily on Jun.22, 2009, under Anime

If you’ve been reading my Weeklies, you’ll probably notice that my stance towards K-ON! has gradually soured, and now, I think it’s at the point where I feel compelled to air my disgruntled thoughts about it. I’m hardly the first person to bring up the fact that K-ON! is an utterly crappy anime series. Zenk has already treated us to his vitriol regarding the first episode and elsewhere, Baka-Raptor gave us an entertaining, yet insightful post as to why the show is terrible. The tide in favor of that show continues to be strong and given its popularity, I suppose there can never be enough people out there railing against K-ON!’s insipid, uninspired nature. Weekly Anime Roundup – #3 (Part 2: Suckage)
by Moonlily on Jun.10, 2009, under Anime
One post isn’t enough to contain all of this information, so here’s part 2 as usual and now I know why episodic bloggers burn out so fast. This’ll teach me a lesson for the summer season not to take on so huge of a workload. Anyhow, let’s just proceed onwards and sideways. Keep in mind that the sarcasm factor may be high and that all shows that are mocked deserve it. On the flip side, shows that earn my praise are also very deserving, so let’s have at it! Weekly Anime Roundup – #2 (Part 2: Let Loose the Dogs of War)
by Moonlily on May.31, 2009, under Anime
One post isn’t enough to contain all of this information, so here’s part 2 as usual. It’s odd that all of the mediocre shows are in this post (save for Guin Saga), but that’s the way it goes. Not that they aren’t enjoyable, but they sure aren’t great by any stretch of the imagination. Anyhow, as expected, it looks like all of these shows are kicking up a notch since the plots have been fully formed and each of these shows are more or less well on their way to more interesting fare and I get the pleasure of evaluating how they’re doing. Keep in mind that the sarcasm factor may be high and that all shows that are mocked deserve it. On the flip side, shows that earn my praise are also very deserving, so let’s have at it!
